Subj:   Re: Can it be any faster

From:   Kohut, Eric J

Is this a one time request or something that you need to do a lot? Tuning this probably can be done but may take some additional resources and time. So is it worth it.

From a network connection this rate about 3 MB / second is pretty good right out of the box, but possibly could be somewhat better based upon the available network bandwidth.

The tunable areas that I see potential payback from are as follows:

Tuning the current process (This assumes that you have enough network bandwidth to push more than 3 MB /second network bandwidth and that the tunable areas will help):

-UNIX Server and Teradata Node TCP/IP settings

Tuning the Teradata environment:

-What is the other work running on the Teradata system?
How busy is the system

Changing the process:
Teradata Load Utilities Performance Options

- Use of Teradata Warehouse Builder instead of Fastload to enable Multiple Read Operators (This is one reason why Informix was sometimes able to load very fast at times, although the rows may have also been much smaller. KB per second is a better measurement than Rows / sec.) If you can't speedup the current process, then this is one of only a few options.

- Other potential options

With your size system, Teradata can easily load data faster as shown by the MVS Host Example sent in. The data simply has to arrive faster.

That is about it.

God Luck,

Eric
