But there's the rub--the environment changes due to the need to recable. I've done more of that than I care to recall, and (now that I am a customer who doesn't do physical reconfiguration on a regular basis) I wouldn't trust myself to do this.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I found working with hardware to be both the most challenging and the most risky part of working with Teradata, and think customers are well advised to leave it alone.

P.S. That thing in my pocket that looks like a cabinet key is really used for opening bottles of beer. I've yet to damage one in the process, and that's a hardware operation I'd be glad to recommend to anyone working with Teradata. ;-)
