Hello Dieter, thanks for the info....I have 1 follow up question...

Would 'recordmode off ' disrupt reformatted/casted columns? In other words, would the following example still work with recordmode off?

sel cola-is-a-date-stored-as-yyyy-mm-dd (format 'mm-dd-yyyyy')
(char(10))
from table ABC
where PI-key='XYZ'
