Great post! How about... 1) Ability to run BTEQ in EXPLAIN mode so every SQL operation is automatically preceded by the EXPLAIN modifier with no editing required. This would greatly assist when capturing pre-upgrade optimiser plans for BTEQ scripts written in tombstone style with too many steps. I have frequently seen > 100 steps in a single script written by people that should know better. 2) Name the offending column for a numeric overflow error. 3) Ability to identify spool usage below user level.
