Harish, I understand your point, but if you stick to that approach then you won't take advantage of the newer indexing features in Teradata. As I tried to describe below (sorry if I confused you) the Teradata optimiser now has the intelligence/ability to use an SI to cover a query. This processing is a lot faster than scanning a data table because the the SI sub-table will be a lot smaller. I realise that you can't always take advantage of this feature (or others) but I think you're doing yourself an injustice if you follow an approach which will preclude it.
