Subj:   Pausing a Stored Procedure

From:   Patrick Dimitroff

Hello,

I am doing some investigation for techniques to control table Loading via MLOADs. The particularity is that those MLOADs will run on MVS and on UNIX and may try to update the same tables.

To synchronize the process, we are looking to build a kind of lock table that will be managed by Strored Procedures. If a given table is already taken by another process then the current one will wait until it is turn.

This 'Locking' will occur in a BTEQ preceding the MLOAD step.

Now my problem is to force a Stored Procedure to wait a certain amount of time before rechecking the lock status of a table.

I create a timer routine playing with the current time but I am afraid that it will be a real CPU hug.

Do you have any solution to solve my problem?

Thanks,

Patrick.
