I agree with David's comments.

We have gone down the approach of FastLoad / Transformation / Insert-Select. This has proved to be efficient, aslong as you have no secondary indexes on the tables being inserted into.

And based on the "A Cross Comparison of Data Load Strategies" presentation by Anita Richards at this years NCR Partners conference, things are going to get much better for this approach, when using V2R5 and Partioned Primary Indexes. With the percentage of daily resources required reducing from 21% down to 5% for a 4 hourly load, which is what we currently do.
