Well said John, and I concur, with all but your last statement...

Although there is much 'religious' discusssion in this area, I, for one, would do all in my power to maintain the 3NF, no matter how complex the load process, as this becomes the more permanant and stable business asset, or core foundation of the DW 'solution'.

If Dimensional structures becomes a necessity for performance reasons, than I would keep the 3NF base and move the DM implementation, by application, to a datamart environment (even if it is just a seperate database defined within Teradata)...

You may disagree, but that is my opinion, based on much experience implementing both model types.
