Subj: | | Building Secondary Indexes |
|
From: | | Doorey, Andrew ST |
We had a failure where a database ran out of space whilst creating a secondary index on a table. This database was 40Gb and contained
one large table which was 32Gb without the index and 36Gb once it had been built. I checked the table for skewing, but this was not the
reason it ran out of space.
Can anyone explain why this failed as there was 4Gb free space? From the sizes of the table and database involved I guess that it needs
twice the space of the index whilst it is being built, but this is purely a guess.
Thanks,
Andy Doorey.
