Subj:   Platform Selection

From:   Matthew Winter

Hi,

After attending NCR Partners this year, and speaking to a variety of people about what they believe is missing in terms of developer and user tools, it became apparent that each company would prefer the tools to be developed in a different way, with regards to wether the tools should be built as a Windows Only tool that would need to be installed seperately on each client to being a Web Browser based tool that is centrally managed and platform independant.

Now in my opinion, developers tend to want more control of the tool they are using, and for it to be functionally rich. Users tend to want a tool that it designed for ease of use, with the support staff wanting it to be centrally maintained to make their role easier.

To get a better overall picture, I would like to gauge peoples opinions on the following:

For Teradata Developers

1. Would you prefer, GUI or Web Browser Based Tools

2. Would you prefer, centrally managed software, or to have the software installed locally.

3. Would you prefer, platform independence or Microsoft Windows

For Teradata Users (Non-Developers)

1. Would you prefer, GUI or Web Browser Based Tools

2. Would you prefer, centrally managed software, or to have the software installed locally.

3. Would you prefer, platform independence or Microsoft Windows

Regards

Matthew Winter
