Most databases except for Teradata have performance problems for scaling beyond 1 TB. On other hand Teradata has multiple sites running several Terabytes of data. 2) Query performance - The Database must be able to performance complex queries on a huge amount of data and return the results in a resonable amount of time to be useful. Teradata does have very good query performance, as it is the only database which implements parallelism at all levels. 3) Loading capability - Usually DW will involve loading tons of data very fast and frequently. 4) Star schema vs 3rd normal form: Databases such as oracle will perform the best only when star schema modelling is used. However star scheme limits the types of queries that can be performed by the users. Teradata is well suited for both types of modelling and so does give more scope for users to frame any type of query they have in mind.
