Michael,

Try using the PING command from a dos prompt (such as "PING hostnamecop1"). If this works it will verify that your hosts file setup is correct and that the problem lis with Bteq. If this doesn't work then Bteq hasn't got a hope of working.

Things to try include:

ping hostname
pinghostnamecop1
ping dbc
