Subj:   Re: Question on compression

From:   Morris, Mark

The definitive answer: Compression is NOT carried over to spool in V2R4 or V2R5.

This is the number one ranked compression enhancement, as ranked by the Partners Advisory Council (PAC) and is a candidate feature for the next major release after V2R5.

In case you are wondering, a Compression Wizard is the #2 ranked compression enhancement request from the PAC and is also a candidate feature for the next major release after V2R5.

Also, to clear up something said earlier V2R5 multi-value compression can compress up to 255 values per column (and NULL on nullable columns). You can compress non primary index columns with certain fixed width data types. We have one customer that has compressed over 100 columns in a single table.

I will be giving a talk on Compression at Partners 2002 on Tuesday, October 1, at 11:30.
