Subj:   Re: Long Logon times via CLIv2

From:   Michael McIntire

Many years ago I rummaged through the CLIv2 sources, and remembered that it poked through the hosts file to deal with the copN suffix. I don't know if that was ever changed, but it made me think about the complexity of parsing the aliases...

Resolution is that I don't think CLIv2 (at least the NT version) deals with aliases. And yes, the DNS lookups are long.

If the system name is ABC, and the logon string is ABC/user,...

this host file entry works in 3 seconds:
10.1.1.1 ABCcop1 dbccop1

While this completes in 28:
10.1.1.1 dbccop1 ABCcop1

Thanks all - Michael
