MDS is a pretty cool product if you have a need to use it. The repository is on the Teradata box, and you can automagically have
changes to the TDat tables update the repository (new tables, columns, etc.). Unfortunately to really use it well, you need a front end,
like BEMDS from Bull or the one that Coffing's company puts out. The place I was at last, we loaded all the ERwin data, including UDF's,
definitions, etc. into the (BE)MDS, to which we had added meta-information that the client wanted to keep (e.g. concepts, bureaus, etc.).
We also could load stuff from flat files into ERwin or the MDS, and then extract to RoboHelp to produce static versions of the metadata.
The base MDS has the capability of showing the metadata (MetaSurf) on the web as well. Nice, I liked it.
