I agree that one should be careful about ROWID, but since it's now a KEYWORD (in R4.? And later?) supported in the JOIN INDEX DDL, I
believe it is supported and officially does exist.
As for problematic BYTE conversions, I agree, however a "pure" surrogate holds no identifying information and cannot be meaningfully
converted to any other datatype or derived attribute, so I believe the conversion issue is moot.
