My shop is OLTP.
On the 3600 hardware, where the amps were pieces of hardware, we use to experience hot-amps because of the choice of the 'not unique
enough' primary index that caused poor data distribution. Then by the nature of the OLTP application, many processes would be try to get at
the data on the same amp. Thus the hot-amp situation occurred.
On the newer hardware (i.e.4855), the amps are software, not hardware. So does the software manage the hot-amp situation? If an amp is
getting too busy, does some of the work get sent to other amps? Or is it possible to still see a hot-amp situation?
Thanks.
