Mike, I don't think that is strictly true. Character data being moved into Teradata or taken out of Teradata is subject to translation, for instance there is EBCDIC to ASCII 'translation' when dealing with an IBM m/f (in the same scenario there are also byte-flipping issues to deal with, but I think we can ignore those for this disussion). Maria, Accented characters can be handled through the use of translation tables. Teradata has some delivered with it as standard (but not installed).
