Yes, SI's do get read into spool, but probably different spool files than the base data. This typically only happens when the SI is used
to qualify the rows in which case the rowid's get put into spool file A, which is then used to extract the appropriate rows from the base
table. The data rows are then put into spoolfile B and the rest of the query processing continues.
