  If the data don't change much, like having a three year detail table and adding daily or weekly data, you should be fine for a while. In this case there is no need to refresh the statistics weekly; probably every 6 months would be enough.  



There is one exception to this rule: if you are adding data with new dates, so that the maximum date value is changing all the time, and you have stats on the date column, you should collect stats on the date column every time you load. If you don't, the optimizer thinks that your new dates don't exist in the table and will come up with a bad plan. This has happened to me more than once.
