Rob,

You don't have to do the analyze at backup time. You can complete all of your backups and analyze later, and if you have a bad backup then rerun that backup. That would allow you to get through with your backups without waiting on the analyze before running more backups. I'm assuming you don't have an unlimited supply of tape drives, and want to get the backups done ASAP, but still want the nice warm fuzzy feeling of having backups that are actually usable. This minimizes the total backup window, while providing a safety net. I can't comment on checksum as we haven't taken advantage of that feature, but we do use ASF2. No we didn't conciously decide against using checksum. Maybe we'll give it a whirl.
