Hi,

In Teradata v2r4.1, and TUF 6.1 there is also the opportunity to set up enforcement of Internal Business Rules using the Teradata Database Query Manager (TDQM).

This is the same application we had using ODBC, but in 4.1 we moved the rules processing inside the database so all queries regardless of where they come from can be blocked from running if they are estimated to use too many resources.

They will be aborted before they even start if they voilate any of your predefined rules.

Rules like....

User Sam can't run a query before 6:00 pm.

No user can run a query which is estimated to run longer than 5 minutes before 6:00 pm.

User george can't run a query which will user > 1 Gig of spool.

Now this relies on the parser and Optimizer plan estimates to make their determination about whether to abort or allow it to run.

I have seen estimates like it will take 20 minutes to run when in reality it takes 2 minutes, so care needs to be taken when defining your rules.
