Don,

There is a probably a very explanation of why it took so long to load the data using JDBC. While the utilities is usually the best answer because they are designed to handle large amounts of data in a batch mode in the simplest and least time consuming to develop, there are usually ways (if desired) to make user applications run nearly as fast and given the correct utility to compare to, nearly as efficiently as well.

There a many ways to optimize the loading of data from a user application. The highlights have been mentioned many times on this forum.

If you are loading historically stored data, then a batch utility is almost always the best approach, but there are other alternatives if you are interested and will invest the time to learn the proper tuning techniques.

Good Luck,

Eric
