Subj:   Re: Source for DDL in SHOW TABLE

From:   Frank Martinez

We are using MDS with (sorry, no commercial intended) an Integris (you know, Bull/Integris, the other Teradata guys? We used to be the only other reseller of Teradata boxes. They were red, if I remember correctly.)= created front end tool, loading from ERwin and flat files, using our own extended version of the DIM, with additional metadata like "Terms" and "Terms related to other Terms", special help. Then using our own (Integris) tools, we produce either a Windows Help file or web pages with that information in static form. We are not using the web functionality of the MDS itself, mainly because we want to be able to deliver the metadata in the help file format. And rather than using the automatic updating directly from the Teradata tables, our ultimate source is the ERwin models, so we have tools in our suite to upload metadata to ERwin. In this way, we have a living, breathing ERwin model, a central store of metadata (the MDS) and independent ways (help files or web) to distribute the metadata. The clients we've done this for have found this extremely useful, especially since we can alter the internal structure of the metadata (the things we store data on) to match their methods and ways of doing things.
