Subj:   Value Ordered Indexes

From:   Joe Lamattina

I have a 600 million row table. There is a payment date field people often select on, looking for the rows where the date falls between whatever ranges they want.

I created an "order by values" index on the field and collected stats but the queries don't use the index, they still do all row scans from the base table.

A couple of things.

We're running V2R4,

Although the column will always have a date, it is defined as nullable, I've tried both "between" and actually coding the >= and <= values. I tried coding the dates both in 990101 and '1999-01-01' formats. I didn't give the index a name, help index does show the index is there.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Joe LaMattina
