(1) I am new to this list. So I may be breaking protocol by posting so soon. (2) I realize that 3rd normal form vs. star schema is not a cut-and-dry decision. There are intelligent people and ideas on both sides of the debate. That said... I read the "Third Normal Form FAQ" paper recently referenced on this list. No matter which side of the fence any of us is on the debate, it should be pointed out there are some statements made in the paper about star schemas that do not reflect the best practices surrounding that approach. In point (6)... rather than using "intelligent keys" which have the problems cited in the paper, the best practice is to use surrogate keys. The other points I would raise are arguably more subjective and so I'll leave it at that! Regards to all, Pat
