Claudio,

We are testing the Priority Scheduler extensively at the site I am at. We are in the early stages but the tool seems to have promise in terms of better managing our diverse workloads. We actually have two separate production systems, each with multiple TBs of data and very different workloads, so we are testing a wide range of the tool's capabilities.

Priority Scheduler does have the ability to automatically change the active allocation group for a performance group based on time of day. However, keep in mind that it is strictly a 24 hour schedule. In other words, it does not account for weekdays versus weekends, holidays, month or quarter end differences, etc. Since changes to the Priority Scheduler are through a very simple command line function (schmon) and the changes take affect immediately, you might consider a shell script in Cron or some other scheduling tool to customize time of day handling.

We have found that the documentation in the User Utilities manual is not very clear. If you have a test system, I would strongly suggest developing some test scenarios and trying them out. The set up work is easy and the schmon -m command gives you pretty good insight into what is happening.
