I haven't found this to use up any resources, other than utilizing a session that could otherwise be used by someone else. This is something that you would want to keep in mind when configuring the number of PE's per node and the amount of memory per node, since each PE can only handle 120 sessions and the more PE's that you need per node, the more memory that you'll need.

We typically have 200-400 users logged on the entire day, even though they may only run a few short queries during the day, and experience no ill-effect from them.
