Subj:   Re: Separation of duties between DBA and Developer

From:   Proulx, Michelle

We have two sets of databases:

User databases: Which contains the final data tables used by the users.

Development, Test, Production

Developers do have create table access rights in development. DBA's have design control.

Work databases: Which contain intermediate tables a developer might be using in their process

Again: Development, Test, Production

Developers have create table access rights in development and design control. DBA's will advise and monitor for performance issues.

In both cases we have scripts for migrating to Test and production.

We have in house scripts for generating the "Create Table" statements when the source is ADABAS. We're also using Power Designer for the physical design.
