I'm also looking at this issue, but can find no difference between the two constructs in terms of performance. Certainly would be interested in others' comments.

One suggestion I heard - albeit from an Oracle background - was that Count(1) used the statistics rather than from the table data, although I'm pretty sure that's nonsense.
