Subj:   Capacity Planning for Ordinairy People!

From:   Neil Board

We're looking at capacity planning seriously for the first time, and are interested in experienced users feedback on the following questions;

1) There are obviously vendors who offer products/services in the cap planning space (and I don't want to get into vendor discussions!), I am interested in what time window Teradata users look at when cap planning, and how much accuracy you realistically work with; i.e. do you look for an hour, day, week, month or quarter when you know you have to have increased capacity by?

2) What are your key parameters, and system elements you typically analyse (and how do you do it?) when assessing capacity on your Teradata system, and how do you prioritise them?

3) Do you know of any existing models/algorithms that are available in the public domain that assist Teradata capacity planning?

4) Does Teradata's T-SET tool help much, if yes how?

Feel free to contact me off list...

Thanks

Neil.
