Subj:   Re: Ansi Compliance in Teradata

From:   John Hall

I've been thinking about this thread and I was wondering if there is some advantage to being ANSI compliant? Although I have a long background with Teradata, I have not found a situation where ANSI compliance would have been necessary. I like the idea of standards and have been trying to make my SQL ANSI compliant, but I really haven't run into a situation where it would have been required. I've been assuming that there is a growing number off-the-shelf tools that are making use of ANSI compliant code, but I don't know that for a fact and I'm wondering if there are people on the list who would be willing to voice an opinion? Is ANSI compliance really going to be an advantage or is this a situation like so many prior attempts in our industry where all the power of any vendor's product seems to be with their extensions?
