Subj:   Re: Serialize and Pack factor for TPUMP jobs -

From:   Walter, Todd

Serialize means that all of the rows destined for an AMP will go through the same session. However, many AMPs' data may go through the same session and can appear in a single PACK. So one PACK can easily request as many row locks as there are rows in the PACK and those row locks can be on as many AMPs as there are rows. The row locks are requested as the rows are processed so it is definitely possible for an all-AMP operation to request an all-AMP lock after some row locks have been granted for the PACK but before all of the locks for that PACK are requested/granted.
