Subj:   API load vs Fastload

Hi,

I am using Datastage v9.1 to load some 1.5 Million records from a file to an empty Staging table. The staging table is defined as NO Primary Index.

In Datastage I tried loading these records using "Immediate" mode (ie API) and also tried loading the same recordset in "Bulk" mode ( ie Fastload). However, I found that while using API mode the records got loaded in 4 mins 10 secs, while fastload took around 4 mins and 50 secs.

My understanding is that - while using API mode, Datastage creates an Insert statement for each input record and loads to the table whereas Fastload loads in bulk.

I understand that the loading time difference is not much in this case, but quite honestly I was expecting Fastload to complete much faster and quicker than API. Why did fastload lag behind API in this case ? Is there any other parameter in DS I need to set in order for fastload to work even quicker? We are using Teradata v14.10.

Please share your thoughts and help me correct myself.

Thanks.
