This could be completely off the mark, but have you done SHOW PROCEDURE to verify the SP code?
More than once I've had someone bring me their source SQL which looked fine, only to find that their SP had been compiled via ODBC with
DateTimeFormat=III so the actual SQL received / compiled by the database was different.
