if anyone was considering opening a degree of Transactional capability within Teradata (uh hum, no names), you wouldn't see that as an overly concerning approach ?

Not at all. Several government clients in the U.S. use a transactional application called CAMS. Of course the volume is very small by comparison to the data warehouse portion of the platform.

I have long maintained that Teradata could be used as a transactional system and might perform very well -- with proper physical design. No one seems interested in experimenting with it, though.

what type of software do you use to build a Data Entry screen over Teradata ?

Any kind you like. CAMS uses a Web interface and Java. Perl or PHP would also work. Or a Windows application in VB/VC#/VC++ and Teradata.NET.
