I would need to see the exact message.

Also check in

     \Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Teradata\SQL AssistanSQLAError.txt

To see if there is additional information.

If so please send the file so that I can determine what is wrong. (Bad timing though ... I'm leaving for vacation any minute; for 2 weeks)

You could check the link in the Start menu in case it got corrupted - or just try to start it by double clicking SQLA.exe. (The link launches Startup.exe)
