Hi,

What happens to the stats depends on whether the index is a single or multi-column index.

Single column stats (whether an indexed column or not) are stored with the column definition (in DBC.TVFields). These will remain if you drop a single column index.

Multi-column stats are stored in DBC.Indexes. If the stats are on an index definition then when you drop the index the stats get dropped as well.
