Subj:   Re: Teradata upgrade to 13 from V2R6

From:   barb.green

Bob provided sound advise. Stats wise Carrie recommends collecting stats on DBC tables that you commonly use, and collect stats on the column PARTITION even if there is no PPI on the table. I have seen it help.

For your heavy hitter/tactical queries make sure you have verbose explain and helpstats output before and after.upgrade.

Do you use DBQL/PDCR/TASM? be prepared as it all changes in R13. Are you going to be using Viewpoint? Certain columns like last response are no longer in DBQL so you will have to adjust any queries accordingly. PDCR if you use it also has to change. TASM opens up some new opportunities for you but the move to R13 from V2R6.2 is big so do your homework. I believe R13 moves the character set in system tables to UNICODE so take care to review.

What version of the client tools are you supporting? If you have not already upgraded to the most currently supported do so now so there are no surprizes later.

I worked with Teradata staff to prepare, my local SSR, SA and GSC were important part of the planning.

Good luck with your upgrade.
