Thanks very much for getting a response from Teradata. That's one of the things that makes this Forum of real value. Anyway, I'm intrigued with the idea of having Scalar UDF's, which seems like a good idea to me. Also, I have to say I'd overlooked the JAVA element of UDF's, so I think that's got to be my new area of learning. I certainly can't claim that JAVA is too low level, as I had done with C. In the meantime, we've used the rather clever Dieter SQL solution, but I'll be pursuing these other avenues as I'm sure it will open new dimensions for us. So, thanks again. Regards David Clough
