Too right Martin! Cant remember what the hierarchy is, default database can be set at user, profile, dsn connection, or command line. I forget the exact order in which they are evaluated someone smarter than I can tell you. You must check at each of these levels to confirm that one setting is not superseding another. You are able to set the default database for the session, that is working as planned. Suspect you validate settings at DSN or profile. As a DBA I prefer to control default database and spool and other settings a profile level and not have DSN send extra database xxx; commands - if you have access to it check to see what DBQL is logging for your user credentials.
