Subj:   Mload Layout consideration

From:   Jepamony, Johnpaul

Hi,

Consider a delimited file with layout of 200 fields with a size of approx 5 GB . The requirement is to load the data of 3 fields of the file into table.

In the MLOAD, the work table( WT) tables holds the intermediate data of processing and then loads the data into the permanent table.

Here in this case, does the WT table holds all the data of the 200 fields or only the 3 fields of the insert query.

We cannot query the Work table, so can anyone explain the process , how Teradata internally handles this?

In the performance point of view, as the file size is huge, if the WT table takes all the 200 fields then process will take long time to complete.

Thanks,

John
