Subj:   Space issue when using timestamp(6)

From:   Gajula, Madhu

Hello Folks,

Thanks in advance for your insights in to the issues posted. We are in a process of implementing out new data warehouse and most of the tables utilize around 4 or 5 columns defined as Timestamp(6) With Time Zone .

We want to capture all the activity on different entities, hence all our dimensions are INSERT ONLY. The Current Tables has around 20 million records from archive and we anticipate a daily average addition of 100000 rows per table each day.

I am wondering what percentage of the space issue these TimeStamp(6) with Timezone columns contribute ? I learnt that the Timestamp contains

     DECIMAL4 seconds
     SMALLINT year
     BYTEINT month
     BYTEINT day
     BYTEINT hour
     BYTEINT minute

And I assume storing all that values will take up some considerable amount of space.

Excited to hear some thoughts on this.

Thanks,

Mgajsk
