The number after the .QUIT is the numeric value returned to the calling environment when BTEQ exits. ".QUIT" and ".QUIT 0" are functionally the same. ".QUIT 99" would return the value of 99 to the calling environment.

ACTIVITYCOUNT returns the number of rows returned by the preceding SQL statement, while ERRORCODE is the return code from SQL statement. You could have and ERRORCODE not equal to zero while ACTIVITYCOUNT is zero if the SQL executed successfully, but there were no rows returned.
