Thank you for your response. I will try to give more information around the problem. I'm building a table that pulls records from a data warehouse table. We have group policies (i_pol) that have many members (i_ird) under a policy. Out of hundreds of thousands of records (one per member), I'm getting about 20 dupes caused by some members being in the system as a retiree (RT) and some as an employee (EE) - the acronyms coded into their i_ird. This can be legitimate but I only want one record per member, so I want the RT to rule over the EE. I hope that better explains the problem.
