I would think the best way would be:

1. Create a New table with same structure as Old table but with new data-type i.e. Decimal(18,0) for the column EMP_SALARY 2. Then, INSERT data into the NEW empty table from the Old table 3. Drop OLD table 4. And Last, Rename NEW table to the OLD table.
