Subj:   Re: Spool space error

From:   Victor Sokovin

I got the error with spool space. I am wondering if I select top 10*, why so much spool space needed.

In addition to what was already suggested I can add that the tool you use to execute the first query may sometimes create an illusion about the execution time. For example, SQL Assistant would usually return a few thousand rows or whatever is specified in the corresponding settings. The query won't need any spool at all, the data will be fetched directly to your client and the tool will close the connection after the specified number of rows have arrived. So, no way to be prepared for the surprise with the second query. Speaking of which, haven't we been told this type of queries would become less spool demanding in the latest releases?
