Tim, I don't think this is a bug. The field type is of fixed length, CHAR(71), and for that reason the ML considers the first record too short.
71 - 17 is indeed 54 bytes too short, hence, the error message. You'll probably need to open the ML manual and look up examples of scripts loading
variable length fields. Also, read about the VARTEXT type. I think it is more useful in your case than the other two you tried. Good luck.
