Subj:   Re: Regarding migration from oracle to Teradata

From:   Curley, David

Can open, worms everywhere....

We went through a migration a couple years ago, here are our biggest learnings:

1) Do not try to migrate your code from Oracle to Teradata - migrate your logic and business rules instead. That is, don't take a chunk of code and try to implement it on TD. Instead, you have to understand what the rules and requirements are and implement them in TD without paying attention to how you did it in Oracle.

2) Spend as much time as you can right now learning how to use TD. Take classes, read the manuals, buy books, do whatever you can to get as much info into your head as you can.

3) Hire a good contractor or two at the start of the project. We had two people who a) totally knew what they were doing with TD and b) understood that part of their job was helping us get up to speed with TD.

Best of luck,

Dave
