Subj:   32bit ODBC on a Windows 2003 Server 64bit

From:   Joerg Mutsch

Hi,

I faced some issues regarding Teradata 32bit ODBC on a 64 bit Windows 2003 Server.

We installed the Cognos Server (32bit) on a 64 bit server trying to access Teradata (R12) via the 32bit ODBC driver for Windows. Unfortunately we can not get a connection to the TD System. The logon failed with a message like that the DSN is not found and no default driver is specified.

Queryman and TD Administrator are not working as well, so it has to do something with the ODBC Driver. Any kind of Application does not have any access to this driver. But it's there.

My thoughts:

- is the 32bit ODBC driver not certified on a 64bit system? Has anyone experienced something similar?

- What would happen if the 64bit driver would be used? I am assuming not much difference

- I was researching the internet and I was reading something about a guy which had a problem with a 32bit application where he tried to access Oracle via ODBC (don't know if ODBC was 32 or 64 bit. However he mentioned that the standard installation directory "C: \Program Files (x86)\" for a 32bit application on a 64bit server might cause some troubles due to the brackets.

- Finally the access rights. Does anyone know if there is an issue here?

Any answer is highly appreciated.

Thanks and regards

Joerg
